While the world’s NGOs and INGOs have been concentrating on more grants in favor of AIDS-tagged institutions and programs, a decline in AIDS funding has been noticed, according to the daily UN briefing on Monday. The reason for the decline in AIDS funding has been attributed to the global economic crisis. The G-8 and European Commission are the major fund providers on AIDS related issues. Although the economic crisis has been considered a major reason for the decline in AIDS funding, other factors are yet to be investigated. The number of AIDS victims is growing worldwide while a huge amount of money is being spent on luxurious AIDS projects and AIDS-related job-creation programs. According to UNAIDS, 33.4 million people currently live with AIDS. There is a total lack of research institutions and grassroot NGOs that could concentrate on the root causes of AIDS spread. While the industrialization and profit-making mission is advancing rapidly in the name of AIDS prevention and treatment, the nations of the world have deliberately evaded their political, socio-economic and cultural factors that have substantially contributed to the accelerated spreading of HIV-AIDS.
