AJHLA demands restart suspended work of artificial lake in river Tawi

Jammu, October 11 (Scoop News) –All Jammu Hotels and Lodges Association (AJHLA) has expressed serious concern over work on the project of artificial lake in river Tawi Jammu going on at snail’s pace and being undertaken with fits and starts. The work on the project which was suspended 4 months ago with the onset of rainy season has not yet been restarted, the association has observed.

A meeting of the Jammu hoteliers association, held in Jammu today under the Chairmanship of its President, Inderjeet Khajuria has demanded immediate restart  of the suspended work and taking it at fast speed to complete the project within stipulated period. The association has rued that the work had remained suspended last year also for about six months and its suspension again this year for such a long time is feared to miss the time frame and target of its commissioning.

AJHLA has further expressed concern over all the city refuse, night soil and liquid waste continuously being flown into the river Tawi, which is polluting its water. No provision has been made for outflow of the filthy water, which is feared to also go into the proposed lake. This will defeat the very objective of setting up the lake in the river, as an attraction for the tourists. The polluted and filthy artificial lake will mar the sanctity of the river as well as the lake, where it is proposed that the pilgrims will hold Arti and other religious rituals.

The association has further flayed Jammu Municipal Corporation for dumping itself and allowing the people to dump solid waste and debris from the city into the river bed, causing pollution and even threatening the chocking of water flow in the river, endangering the coming up lake also. It has demanded immediate ban on dumping of mulba in the river bed and also alternative arrangement for flow of liquid waste and its scientific disposal and treatment, to avoid pollution of the river and proposed lake.

The others who attended the meeting included Ajay Gupta Sr. Vice President, BS Manhas Vice President, Pawan Gupta Gen. Secy., Baldev Treasure,  Anil Suri and Vikramjeet Singh Secys.
