AJKPC presents Memorandum to Governor




Jammu, February 28 (Scoop News) –A delegation of the All Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Conference, an organization of Panches and Sarpanches, called on  N. N. Vohra, Governor, at Raj Bhavan, here today and presented to him a Memorandum of their demands.

          The 11-member delegation led by  Shafiq Mir, Chairman, All Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Conference, discussed with the Governor the to date status of the functioning of Panchayats in the State and complained about effective measures not so far having been  taken for their empowerment.

          Among the issues raised by the delegation, the Governor was most seriously concerned to hear about the security problems faced by the Sarpanches and Panches. The delegation was also dissatisfied about the provisions of the 73rd Constitutional Amendment not so far being incorporated in the existing law for ensuring empowerment of Panchayati Raj Institutions in the State.      

          The Governor assured the Panchayat Conference that all the issues raised by them would be taken up with the Chief Minister.    

          The delegation comprised  Anil Sharma, General Secretary, All Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Conference;  Ghulam Hassan Punzoo, Chief Spokesperson;  Gautam Singh, Capt. (Retd) Raj Dev Singh, Ms. Vimla Devi,  Ghulam Mohammad Mir,  Ajaz Ahmed, Ms. Avinash Devi, Choudhary Mohammad Aslam Kohli and  Jugal Mahajan.

           Navin K. Choudhary, Principal Secretary to the Governor, was present on the occasion.
