Dammam, Saudi Arabia – Al Jazirah Ford zoomed to victory, starting their campaign in the Eastern Province Basketball League Advisors Cup with a convincing 66-61, come-from-behind win against a depleted PI Consult team Friday at the Ettifaq Club Gymnasium here.

The Jazirah Ford squad showed up the Consultants in an exciting duel, coming from behind to win the game with a solid performance from playmaker Joel Lingon. The prolific guard scattered seven of his 27 points in the last quarter fueling a mighty charge that got the car dealers into the game after trailing by as many as 11 points, 23-34 in the second period.
The PI Consult team led 46-42 after three quarters, but two crucial errors with 6:32 left in the final period enabled Jazirah Ford to tie the game at 50-50. Lingon capitalized well a running game giving the car dealers back to back baskets to take a 54-50 lead with 4:12 remaining in the last canto.
The Consultants still closed in at 59-61 with 2:13 remaining with the effort of Alvin Macaumbang who had 13 of his 27 points in the last quarter, but Al Jazirah Ford deployed a solid defense and scored two unanswered baskets by Carlo Mungcal and Noel Fernandez to up the lead to 65-59 with 23 seconds to go.
Fernandez scored 18 points; Jun Nuque added eight points and Mungcal had four points all in the last quarter for Jazirah Ford. Philip Buntales helped Macaumbang in scoring with 15 points while Alvin Maliwat and Jun Valmonte had seven and six points, respectively, for the Consultants.
In another game, Saudi Master Baker continued their winning form earning their second win at the expense of Radicon Gulf Consult via an easy 87-61 victory.
Saudi Ready Mix continued their year-long unbeated streak by toppling McDonalds 82-73; Al Falak outscored an enthusiastic Safari team 87-80; Zagaforms Cue Masters earned their first win against Sharbatly Fruits 73-59; FEMCO team won against DAR Al Riyadh Consultants 85-43; Animo Laith continued their stirring run against favorite Saudi Oger team 79-60 while Gulf Real Estate won via default against Arcan team.
