The monthly number of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) reported in Syria jumped 134 percent from December to January, according to the Pentagon’s Joint IED Defeat Organization. This is indicative to the presence of al-Qaida. In typical Pentagon fashion the numbers that percentage is based on remains “classified”
In addition the number of suicide bombings are also on the rise…
Suicide bombings is a specialty of al-Qaida, which uses twisted logic and a distorted view of Islam to convince others to kill themselves. They tell prospects that what they do will assure them of gaining admittance to heaven, they also pay the families in some cases. More often they use blackmail and extortion to convince persons to suicide themselves.
“It’s totally sicko”, said George O’Reilly of Charlotte, N.C. a self taught expert in Quran teachings. “The hadith and sunna teachings as well Wahabbist Sunni ideology has a lot to do with the rise of the cult of suicide in Islam”, he said.
The U.S. government has said there are signs that al-Qaida in Iraq may be behind the up tick violence in Syria, where rebels are attempting to overthrow the regime of Syrian President Bashar Assad. Assad’s government accuses opponents of using suicide bombings, a common terrorist weapon. See article: “Officials say al-Qaida behind Syria bombings” http://www.marinecorpstimes.com/news/2012/02/ap-syria-officials-say-al-qaida-behind-bombings-021612/ . The so called “Free Syrian Army”, a grouping of Syrian army defectors, known terrorists and anti-Assad fighters, has said al-Qaida is not operating in Syria. That information has been deemed not reliable according to both American and Iraqi intelligence officials, who suggest a continuous flow of al-Qaida fighters flowing into that country. This in apparent response to a video posted on the web from al-Qaida leaders approving the armed rebellion (‘US backs Al-Qaeda to mutually destroy Syria’ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s0ZCgGJig0c see also: US and al-Qaeda teaming up in Syria? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J9jkjY6jFdQ If there is any doubt we found this video online: Al-Qaeda calls on Muslim world to fight Syria government (Video Statement) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YpT0Zx4vgyw .
Massive car bombings in February in Damascus and Aleppo bore all “the hallmarks of an al-Qaida attack”, according to Director of National Intelligence James Clapper.
IEDs are a preferred weapons for terrorists seeking to kill civilians.
“IED’s can also be used by armed rebels facing conventional forces who have tanks and artillery”, says Matt Smith of Charlotte.
They are relatively inexpensive and assembled easily. “IED’s give terrorists and murders more bang for the bucks”, said on Charlotte- Mecklenburg police officer, speaking on the condition of anonymity (apparently out of fear for talking with citizen journalists?). “Rebels are currently using IEDs to attack civilian buses that the Syrians are using to transport soldiers. They also have been attacking government facilities”, he said.
Senators John McCain and Lindsey Graham, Republicans war hawks on the Armed Services Committee, say the U.S. should find ways to support the rebels and terrorists.
Senator McCain even went so far as to call for US air strikes against Syrian targets. This would surely be considered an act of war by the Syrian military. It might also be considered an act of war by the Russians. So far Obama has been reluctant to “militarize” the situation in Syria, but has been threatening Iran with such statements as “all options are on the table” and other actions including secret meeting with the Israeli Prime Minister to discuss “the Iran situation”…
