Thousands of senior citizens protested the EU tax levied on home made rakia in Sofia, Bulgaria. The protests have been ongoing since January when it became apparent that a tax of 1.10Euro per liter will be placed on all home produced alcohol. For most Bulgarians rakia making is a family tradition adhered to for hundreds if not thousands of years, now in high danger due to the enormous for local standards tax. Thus it is explainable why there was no apparent love in the air in Sofia and most of the slogans visible on the orthodox holiday of the protector of alcohol makers St.Trifon were calling for leaving the EU or getting rid of the parliament if they continue to back this hellish tax.
