All set for Rs.2/- a K.G rice scheme launch in A.P

All arrangements are being made for launching of the much published Rs. 2 a kg rice scheme by Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy at Jadcherla town in the Mahboobnagar district of A.P,India on Wednesday.

According to district officials, there are about 9.26 lakh card holders in the district and 17,000 metric tonnes of rice are required for distribution under the scheme. They informed that all necessary measures have been taken for fool-proof distribution of the rice. The 2,119 fair shop dealers in the district submitted their demand drafts for the supply of rice and over 80 per cent of them were supplied the required stock.

Keeping in view the past experiences, various steps have been taken for complaint-free implementation of the rice scheme. Rice will be distributed only on production of coupons and distribution of rice will be carried in the presence of members of self-help groups and other women groups in the villages.

Each ration shop dealer will supply rice to 100 to 150 families per day to avoid heavy rush. To follow this, key registers have been provided, through which villagers will be informed in advance by tom-tomming or other means. The distribution of rice will start on April 9 and close by April 15. The dealers have to close their registers on April 16 and there will be no supply of rice to the beneficiaries after April 15. Refuting the allegations that poor quality rice would be supplied under the subsidised rice scheme, they informed that the rice produced within the State only will be supplied. Already some 50,000 bogus ration cards have been weeded out and any further bogus cards coming to their notice will be seized, the officials added.
