Alzheimer´s disease is namned after the German doctor Alois Alzheimer, who first described the disease in 1906.
Alzheimer´s disease is the most common of dementia diseases, which affects an estimated 24 million people worldwide.
It´s a progressive disease of the brain, which means that it gets worse with time, and it always end with death.
It´s the seventh leading cause of death in the USA.
Women are more likely to develop Alzheimer´s disease, but just beacuse they live longer.
Alzheimer´s disease is thought to have caused in production,or an accumulation,of beta-amyloid protein.
This protein builds up and forming plaque on the brain, and researchers believed that it leads to the destruction of the nerve cells.
This affects the memory, talk, language and perception.
The exact cause of Alzheimer´s disease is not known, but it´s not a part of normal aging.
Some of the riskfactors are:
Heredity, age, diabetes, high blood pressure,Downs syndrome, head injuries – particularly brain reiterated shakings, less than 6-8 years of education.
The disease begins slowly with mild memory loss – which can often be confused with age-related forgetfulnes, increased and sustained forgetfulness, difficulty in performing daily tasks, problems with kanguage, disorientation of time and place, problems with abstract thinking, mood swings, behavior and personality changes.
