Jammu, August 31 (Scoop News) -The AICC General Secretary Ambika Soni and Union Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad today called upon party cadres to work unitedly for strengthening the party at the grass root level.
The AICC General Secretary Ambika Soni, Union Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and President JKPCC Prof. Saifuddin Soz addressed one Day Convention of Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee
(JKPCC) held in Jammu on Saturday at Banquat Hall of Hotel Ashok Jammu.
Ambika Soni in her address stressed for co-originated efforts of the party functionaries and ministers to reach out to the masses in every nook and corner of the state, in order to mitigate the problems of the people of different sections. She said that a detailed programme shall be worked out with JKPCC to further gear up the activities of the party including members in the council of ministers. She appreciated the efforts of the PCC leadership, especially on the issues of the party like empowerment of Panchayat Raj System in the state. She also appreciates the development works done during congress led government headed by Ghulam Nabi Azad.
She said that she would visit Kashmir also shortly and similarly interact with party cadres to know their views on various issues in order to further galvanize the party at all levels.
Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Ghulam Nabi Azad in his address urged for strengthening the party upto the booth level in order to activate the cadre and to defeat the communal and divisive forces and stressed up on strengthening the bounds of unity and brotherhood to promote the ideals of secularism for the unity and integrity of the state and the nation. He refered to various developmental activities and welfare measures taken during his tenure as Chief Minister. He said the demands of the all sections receive due attention and various measures were taken to resolve their problems.
Prof. Saifuddin Soz welcomed the historic National Food Security and Land Acquisition bills and congratulated the UPA leadership Smt. Sonia Gandhi, Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and Shri Rahul Gandhi for these land mark initiatives. He said that Congress party is Committed to the principles and ideals laid down by great leaders like Mahatama Gandhi, PT. Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Patel, Mulana Azad, Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi and others and it is steadfast to further strengthen those ideals and values. He referred to the struggle of JKPCC to empower the people through Panchayat Raj to strengthen democracy and to seek address of different sections of society including refugees, border migrants, SCs, STs and other deprived sections. He said that party is vibrant in all three regions of the state and the recent results to the Hill Council in Kargil have established that it is emerging stronger. He said similar Convention would be held in Kashmir and more functions of the party would be held all over the state for further strengthening the party.
Earlier The senior leaders of the party deliberated upon various resolutions which were moved in the Convention and later unanimously adopted in the house.
The resolutions adopted in the Convention included hailing of the recent Food Security and the Land Acquisition legislations which was described as historical step of the UPA government, the political resolution declaring the resolve of the party to promote and strengthen the unity and integrity of the nation and the state in a climate of peace togetherness and human dignity, resolutions condemning the unprovoked firing by the Pakistan forces and expressing sympathies with population getting effected, problems of refugees of 1947, 1965 and 1971 from POK and Pakistan urging for their early resumption, empowerment Panchayat Raj System by incorporating the provision of 73rd Amendment in the state.

The proceedings of the Convention were conducted by PCC General Secretary Incharge media and communication Ravinder Sharma-MLC and attended by all functionaries of PCC, Ministers, MPs, Legislators, District Presidents, leaders of frontal organizations and Members of PCC.
