American Movie “Acting”

American movie stars are not acting.  If you ever go to a theater where talented actors are performing — real human beings on a stage — you will see acting.  [The best plays I have seen: the Gate Theatre of Dublin’s Waiting for Godot at Bard College, and Harold Pinter’s The Homecoming on Broadway.]  Actual acting is profound and eternal, reminiscent of church bells and Miro.  When you see it, you’re never reminded of a Paramount movie.

Tom Cruise and Sandra Bullock and Mel Gibson are not acting; they’re PLAYING.  Seeing them is like watching five year old kids running in the backyard, playing Cowboys and Indians.
