American eat five times more than Indians : Shortage of Food according to Bush
The American President and Foreign Minister held Indians responsible for the shortage
and soaring prices of food, but the reality is different. According to them India is
prospering and middle class is eating much more than the usual.
But the own figures of the US government deny their own statements. According to
figures / statistics of Department of Agriculture of the US, an American eats five times
more than an Indian. On the average, Indian consume 178 kilograms of food grains in a
year against the Americans consuming 1046 kilograms in a year. Americans also eat 2
times more than the European Union and three times more than the Chinese. Per capita
food consumption by Americans is increasing steadily. In 2003 the per capita
consumption was 946 kg against 1046 kg in 2007. But in India it remained stable since
about last four years. Americans not only eat more food grains but also many times
more milk, beef and chicken. In case of meat (non-vegetarian), Indians are not even
close to Americans. If you say that Indians like chicken more than beef and hence their
chicken consumption will be more, then also you are wrong.
Everything is clear from the following data of US Agriculture Department :
American Indian
Food grains (kg) 1046 178
Milk (liters) 78 36
Beef (kg) 46.6 1.5
Chicken (kg) 45.4 1.9
