Perhaps it seemed inevitable ever since a huge and upsetting victory by the Democrats over the Republicans. On November 4, 2008, it was the day that most of if not the entire world was waiting for. It was the United States Elections. However, the most paid attention to race was for the United States Presidency. Back then, it was Democratic Senator Barack Obama of Illinois up against GOP Senator John McCain of Arizona. It was Obama that came up victorious via a landslide victory.
Democrats had also scored major victories in both houses of the United States Congress. So far, it may have left the GOP in shambles. However, nothing is really for certain. Perhaps the GOP is going through an identity crisis right about now. But, we will not really know what happens until it happens.
In the GOP, there seems to be inner turmoil. So far, it would seem that conservative talk radio host Rush Limbaugh has taken the reins to make himself the “leader” of the GOP. Legally, the GOP leader is former Maryland Lieutenant Governor Michael Steele. Steele’s election as Republican National Committee chair should be deemed as historical. Steele is the first African-American to be elected as the RNC chair.
It should seem that the GOP could have used the opportunity to rise from the ashes. However, it does not seem to be the case. On top of that, a recent poll conducted by NBC and the Wall Street Journal puts the popularity rate of Republicans at twenty-six percent. Remember, poll results are not completely accurate.
On top of that, it seems that not many people are bought on the GOP message.
So far, it seems that not many were impressed by the GOP rebuttal given by Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal in response to Obama’s “Address to Congress” or “State of the Nation.” There is a possible gaffe in one part of Jindal’s rebuttal.
When things are factored in together, it looks as if the GOP has a difficult road ahead. On top of that, Limbaugh could end up making things worse for the GOP. It has been known that Limbaugh has openly said that he hopes Obama fails.
For those paying attention, Limbaugh has been very vocal. Figures in the GOP are hesitant to denounce Limbaugh’s comments.
Recently, Obama’s chief of staff Rahm Emanuel launched a new strategy calling Limbaugh the “leader” of the GOP. So far, Republicans have criticized the strategy. There is one question to be asked: Is Emanuel’s strategy working?
It has come under fire from New Gingrich, the former GOP House leader. Republicans are saying that the Limbaugh controversy is nothing more than a distraction that everybody needs to move on.
Perhaps this could be potential GOP ammo against the Democrats? We will have to wait and see.
Virginia Governor and current DNC chair Tim Kaine brought up Limbaugh again. Kaine brought up Limbaugh’s comments of wanting Obama to fail.
However, there is a question that needs to be asked: Who really is in charge of the GOP? Legally, Steele was recently elected the chairman of the RNC. However, Limbaugh has been extremely vocal in his attacks against Obama.
