The Bollywood celebrity Amitabh Bachan was discharged from an Anti-tobacco case pending against him by a District and Sessions Court in Panaji, Goa.
An NGO, by name the National Organization for Tobacco-Eradication had filed this case against him alleging that had promoted smoking through a display of an advertisement in the Goa Highway depicting himself puffing a cigar while endorsing a product.
Accepting the contention of Mr.Bachan that the hoarding was from a still taken from the movie ‘Family’ in which he has acted and he had not permitted any one to use it for promotional purposes, the Sessions Judge, Mr.V.V.Bakre nullified the proceedings against him by the Judicial Magistrate based on the revision petition filed by him. The Judicial Magistrate had earlier issued notice of legal proceedings against the Actor following the filing of criminal case by the above NGO under the Goa Anti-tobacco Act .
