An Excert from the short Story “A Farewell Meeting”

Sitting across from each other, a father and son watch as the planes arrive in the airport. The son looks over to a near waitress and gets her attention. “Yes sir… How can I help you?” She asked as she took out her notepad and walked towards them. “Yes, we’d like two glasses of Champaign.” the son answered as he looked towards his father for approval. His father quickly nodded with his head and stared at his son.

“Do you understand what doing this means?” he asked sort of questioning his wisdom. “I certainly do but what can I do about it? I’ve been chosen to go, so I must go and help.” he replied as he grabbed a glass of Champaign from the returning waitress. “I understand that, but did you have to accept it? Why didn’t you say it was against your beliefs and didn’t trust the direction of the governments?” the father asked as he took a zip of his drink.

“Father, you don’t understand, if I turned it down for some silly reason, that would pretty much label me as a coward.” he explained as he looked around. The sounds of laughter and happiness echoed through the building. The sight of happy families, enjoying themselves while waiting for their plane, brought a smile to his face. “Father… don’t miss understand me, I frown on this acceptance to another’s hostile land, but again… I have no choice.” the son said as he got up and walked towards a large window by their table. “I see you clearly thought this out.” his father said as he stared at his son with care. “Yes… I have.” the son replied slowly and quietly.
