17 August 2008, Sunday, a day to remember as Singapore finally got hold on of an Olympic Games medal since 1960. The Olympic silver medal came from Singapore women Table Tennis Team. The final team game between Singapore and China went in favour of China Team as they dominated fully with 3 straight wins. In the first game, China’s Wang Nan defeated Singapore’s Feng Tianwei. Later in the second game, Singapore’s Li Jiawei managed to won the first set but eventually lost to China’s Zhang Yining in a hard fought battle. The last game was Women’s doubles which went in favour of China.
But Singapore Women Table-Tennis Team had put up a glorious battle against the Chinese. It is still a silver medal for the Singapore side. Singapore Team made up of Li Jiawei, Feng Tianwei and Wang Yue Gu had put their best and this day will go down to the glorious record of Singapore’s sporting history.
