With the recent hype of about a new and better iPad – the iPad 2, Samsung has a 7” tablet that could turn to be a rival for Apple.
The Samsung Glaxy tab is uber cool with a black façade and a mimicking of Apple’s white on the back. It comes with a 3.5 megapixel camera and videocamera and its only slightly larger than a smartphone. While Apple has produced quality products consistently and presumably the touch screen, smaller firms like Samsung have played around with the tablet model to unveil a combination of a tablet and phone.
In this regard, the Galaxy tab is practical and android developers have done a good job of making some of the best apps available on the market. While Apple might be targeting an elite market that can’t settle for anything but the best, the Galaxy comes close with the right ergonomics and an affordable price, close to $500. You might be able to get the same iPad 2 tab without 3G for the same price. But then you would have to walk around with an almost 10” tab, which would make one appear to be back in the Flintstones era.
The bottom line is that the iPad 2 is a serious machine for very exclusive purposes. But the Galaxy is versatile since it can do a number of things differently. First of all it is small enough to fit in your pocket. Android apps give you the ease of using compatible software for Office like thinkfree.com and it allows you to insert a sim card, doubling your tablet as a phone.
