Jammu and Kashmir: Jammu Province Tourist Taxi Operators (JPTTO) would express anger against the government’s move of launching radio taxi in the state. Alleging conspiracy behind the move, Taxi Operators President, Inderjeet Sharma said that they would launch a protest march on Sep 3 on the roads along with their taxis. They would also submit memorandums to Dy CM Tara Chand at his residence.
Sharma said they will march towards Revenue Ministers residence at 9:00 am sharp and will also call on Divisional Commissioner to keep their point by submitting memorandums to him also.
“It has been deep conspiracy against poor taxi operators as the radio taxi system is being developed to benefit blue eye persons of those at the helm of affairs in the dispensation of the day. But we will not let it happen as we also have a right to live with dignity” he added.
It is important to mention that government of Jammu and Kashmir drafted Radio Taxi
Scheme 2011 through a notification reading as “In exercise of powers conferred by section 74 of Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 (59 of 1988), the Government of Jammu and Kashmir hereby makes the following scheme for operation and regulating the business of Radio Taxi Services and matters connected therewith in the State”. Last month on August 2nd Chief Minister Omar Abdullah launched the scheme with an objective to facilitate local as well other tourists in the valley.
Whereas the level of violation of laws could be judged by allowing numberless vehicle in airport, besides, a cab having jurisdiction of 30 KMs are roaming in entire valley, Sharma said instead of dealing with violators’ government has resorted to hamper the livelihood of poor taxi operators.
“We opposed it tooth and nail in Srinagar and we will not allow them (government) to launch it in Jammu” said Sharma adding that members of his associations from across the region would come on road to put forth their point, anybody if, comes in the way the consequences would be direct responsibility of the local administration.
The day will start as usual but the tango of three viz taxi operators, administration and police would be worth interesting to watch.
