Anil Kumble’s Test Feat

Anil Kumble, the master leg-spinner and curently Captain of the Indian Team achieved a landmark by claiming his 600th test Wicket in the present test against Australia. He is at present only third in row, the first and second places being held by Muthiah Muralitharan and Shane Warne with a tally of 723 and 708 wickets respectively.

But, what unique characterisitics Anil Kumble possesses which distinguish him from the rest of the spinners? Well, here are some of them.1.He concentrates more on his bounce off the pitch rather than the turn normally followed by a conventional spinner. The result is more intensity and accuracy. 2. He employs subtle variation in pace and ingenious use of crease and the outcome is more wickets. 3. He outthinks the batsmen and the conseqnence is  that they fall as a victim by losing their wicket.

Sheer discipline, hardwork and strength of mind are some of the other hall-marks of this great spinner. He overcame a major shoulder injuiry by practising these qualities in day-today-life besides cricket.

His outstanding performance was 10wicket inning haul against Pakistan in the Second Test held in 1999 played in New Delhi.
