Anantnag/Baramulla/Pulwama,May 12 (Scoop News) –The Government College Baramulla organized annual road race from Sangrama junction Sopore to College Main Gate Khawja Bagh Baramulla.
The event was flagged off by the Principal of the College, Prof. (Dr.) Irshad Ahmad Wani at 6 a.m. from Sangrama and 30 students of different departments participated. The race was covering a distance of about 8 kilometres. The participants run via Delina-Kanispora-Kralahar and finished at Main Gate of College.
Aaqib Irshad of BA 2nd year bagged first prize by covering the distance in 31:50 minutes whereas Imran Khan of BA 2nd year and Muzamil Sharif of B.Sc 2nd year bagged the second and third position by covering in 33:10 and 34:40 minutes respectively.
At the end of race, a simple but graceful function was organized in the College lawns in which the Principal felicitated the prize winners and explained the importance of sports shaping personality of youth.

The race finished at Akad Park-20 Kms from the college. More than 40 cyclists participated in the race. Sajad Yousf Sheikh of BG 2nd year, the fastest cyclist made a record after finishing the distance (20 Kms) in just 26 minutes. He was followed by Sajad Y Bhat of BG 2nd year and Rayess Ahmad Wagay of BG 3rd year who completed the race in 31 minutes and 34 minutes respectively. These three cyclists shall be representing the college in Inter college Cycle Race to be held somewhere in the current month.
The College appreciated the district administration, Traffic Police, District Police, District Health Services and the college staff for coordination and making the show safe and successful.
The Principal also appreciated the participants for displaying their sports spirit. He lauded the role of Prof. G Hassan Thakur and his team for dedicatedly looking after the sports activities of the college.

Despite inclement weather & heavy rains, the students displayed fortitude and made this event a success for which they deserve admiration. The race was flagged-off by the worthy Principal in presence of the Station House Officer Pulwama & the senior faculty members of the college. Tawseef Ahmad Magray (BG 3rd Year), Mairaj Ud Din (BG 1st Year) & Qaiser Ahmad Dar (BG 2nd Year) bagged the first three positions.
The college records a word of appreciation for the cooperation & support provided by the Police Department, Health Department & the District Administration for making this event a success.
