Another Dowry Sucide in Bangalore

Bangalore: A woman hanged herself and committed suicide. Manuja(20 years) a newly wed  committed suicide in Sharda colony of Kamakshipalya police station area of Bangalore. Her Husband Cheluvaraju  saw through window that his wife hanged herself on returning home.

The door of the room was locked from inside.He opened the door with the help of neighbousr.She was still alive and take her last breath on the way of hospital.

Manuja’s parent lodges a complaint that Cheluvaraju was harassing her for dowry.

He has given a handsome amount of money during wedding but he demanding more money. Cheluvaraju by profession a cook married Manuja’s for seven months.He is absconding.

There are laws like 498A of  IPC which deals with matrimonial cruelty ,Another law

Domestic violence act is introduced by Government nearly two year back  in which if a wife lodge a complaint  against his husband or inlaws then police gives her protection by visiting her home fortnightly.Very few people are aware of this law.

The dowry harassment cases rises in Karnataka .In 2006 it was 2200.(approx)and in 2007 it was 2500(approx).
