Quetta: An earthquake 6.5 Magnitude on the Richter scale rocked the southern parts of Pakistan today.
At 4:30 AM, the first tremor hit Ziarat and some other areas of Baluchistan province, 5 magnitude and the 2nd tremor was soon after that, 6.5 magnitude, 215 killed and thousands were left injured and homeless, however, Ziarat has been the worst hit area because mostly the locals have mud houses which have been totally destroyed and the people are under open sky.
Later on some tremors hit the capital city, Quetta and other parts of Baluchistan and thousands of people are still under debris, while almost two thousand houses have been destroyed according to primary assessments.
According to chief meteorologist Mr. Muhammad Riaz these aftershocks could be felt for more than a month because when we look at the disastrous earthquake of Balakot in October 2005, which kept shaking the region for more than a month.
Later on, an aftershock 5.3 magnitude hit Quetta,Harnai,Qilla Abdullah, in the afternoon and people came out of their houses.
The government has established an emergency relief fund for the quake hit areas and relief goods are being transported to the quake-affected people of Baluchistan on emergency basis.
On the other hand, emergency has been declared in all the hospital of Baluchistan and Sindh and relief teams have been sent to the quake hit areas and Pakistan army is looking after the relief work in Baluchistan and relief goods like tents,blankets,medicines , food , are being transported to the areas by planes and helicopters from Chaklala Rawalpindi and Faisal airbases Karachi.
Baluchistan is located in a very dangerous zone especially when we look at the earthquake in 1947 that has totally destroyed Quetta city.
