The voters of Sibu who were predominantly Chinese threw another lifeline , which Wong Ho Leng belonged to, can still thump their chests. Karpal and Lim can still declare the DAP as the main player in the Opposition camp.
The result of this by-election proved once again how hard it is to earn the support of the Foochows in Sibu. Yes, some may ask: Are they ungrateful? Maybe, would be the appropriate answer. Why do they go for the Opposition?
One answer would be the local economy of Sibu or to be more exact, the retail traders. They are the shopkeepers, Coffee shop operators, Taxi drivers, vegetable sellers, small time contractors and many more. These are the people who wished there were more pedestrian traipsing the streets of Sibu and spending their money at the same time.
With the latest development, is there any change in the Parliament? Hardly, if one may say so. With the exit of Wee Choo Keong from PKR the number of MP’s on the Opposition side was one less. Come Ho Leng and the number are there again.
The number of independent MP’s has increased by one. The boys in the middle are getting merrier. The question is still; will there be more of them joining in? Yes! Yes! I bet there will be more of them. If we were to take the words of Zulkifli Nordin, there will be more of them.
It seemed that the number of party members exiting the PKR is increasing. These days they exited not just in one or twos but the whole branch. It just happened in Kedah and Perak. So, what happened to that party?
Is that lifeline strong enough to really lift them out of their never-ending problems? There is that sodomy trial and it is not going to stay put. Anwar will face a Parliamentary Committee on the 8th of June concerning some remarks he made outside the House.
