Another Round of Flooding

Well it looks like we had another round of heavy rain in Red Oak, Iowa.  The flooding about two weeks ago was no comparison to what is going on now.  The Nishnabotna River has completely came out of it’s banks and covered parts of Highway 34.  The river also covered part of a small town in Southwest Iowa called Coburg.  In Red Oak the west and southwest side of town was evacuated due to concerns of not only the Nishnabotna River flooding but also a small creek that runs through town.  The creek reached flood levels while the National Guard and city crew members hustled to slow the rapidly rising water from going into the nearby houses and yards.  I went out around 9:00 this morning and seen the damage.  A section of the shoulder of Highway 34 was washed out and water covered many of the country roads around Red Oak.

In Hastings, IA they were forced to evacuate people with boats because the water had surrounded the town and flooded many residents out.  Whole sections of Highway 34 were closed off and are still closed off at this time due to water over the roads.  In town there has been many reports of houses being flooded out and damage to property and crops that have been planted already.
