A unique literary meet started on Tuesday in the Indian city of Pune. The meet hopes to spread the message of anti-addiction among the masses.
The first ever anti addiction literary meet (Vyasan Mukti Sahitya Sammelan in Marathi) took off coinciding with the 145th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi at Pune. The event started with a traditional procession, dindi, lead by Shivajirao Moghe, Minister for Social Justice. Dr. Anil Awachat, a veteran in the anti-addiction movement, was present on the occasion.
The meet is organized by the Department of Social Welfare in which literary personalities, artists and organizations participated. The procession started from Shaniwar Wada and culminated at Balgandharva auditorium.
The meet assumes significance on the background of two recent incidents of drugs party busted in Pune itself. In the first week of September, the police busted a party in which adolescent students were found drinking liquor in scant clothes. In another incident, a party was busted in a hotel on Ahmednagar road which is known for the booming Information Technology business.
