Anti-Dera Sikhs protest firing, not to cremate victim

Police have arrested three people for the murder of Balkar Singh, a Sikh who was protesting the presence of Dera chief Baba Ram Rahim Singh in Mumbai.

Balkar Singh was killed when members of the Baba’s security convoy, fired at protestors in a Mumbai Mall.

The Sikh community in Mumbai has now announced that they will not cremate Balkar Singh, unless the ‘Baba’ is arrested.

The Sikhs had gathered in the Nirmal Lifestyles mall in Mulund to protest, and were shouting anti-Dera slogans. It soon turned violent with stones being pelted and the Dera chief’s bodyguards opened fire killing one and injuring two others.

The rift between the Sikhs and the sect has been deepening ever since Baba Ram Rahim singh, allegedly dressed up as Guru Gobind Singh.

Sikhs block Pune expressway

Sikhs in Pune late on Friday assembled at the Talegaon toll naka on the Pune-Mumbai expressway in a bid to prevent Sachha Sauda from entering the city.

Over 40 sikh youths with brandishing swords and other weapons blocked the expressway for some time. They chanted slogans against Sachha Sauda demanding his arrest and also burnt his effigy.

Police later arrested the demonstrators and released them on bail. Some of the Sikh youths also waited at the Pune airport sensing that he may fly out from here.

Sikhs in Pune have vowed that they will not allow Saccha Sauda or his followers to enter Pune and have warned the government to arrest him on murder charges.
