The PCEA Kakamega church youth held today an anti-jigger campaign at Kilingili PCEA church building at Kilingili village in Kakamega County.
The campaign was organized by members of PCEA church in Kakamega and took place between 8 am to 6pm .Christians from all PCEA churches in Kakamega county donated money to facilitate the campaign and also to buy clothes and shoes for the needy.
Mr. Chege one of the youth members of PCEA Kakamega church said, “The whiten areas of the body are a constant attraction to more jiggers. The skin become rough and hard, a haven for the parasite, the good news is that no matter the rot, remedy is always possible .after treatment the person starts healing and within 6 months, the original skin color and texture come is back”
Many people from Kilingili community availed themselves to take advantage of the free treatment especially those who were infected by the parasite.
Youth members formed the organization which works on the jiggers’ eradication campaigns in rural areas. They provided direct services by treating the victims, preventative and rehabilitative services.
The stigma previously associated with jigger infestation is greatly reducing and uninfected members of society have begun to understand that jiggers’ infestation as a result of extreme poverty and poor environment but not due to issues related to witchcraft and curses.
