Guru Govind Singh Study Circle observe Anti-Tobacco Day
Guru Gobind Singh Study Circle, Udhampur observed “ No TOBACCO Day” by giving prizes to Nine students of different educational institution who bagged first, second and third positions in a recently held drawing competition on the topic “ Abuses of Drugs and Smoking” in the premises of Shri Goverdhan Palace, Udhampur in Jammu and Kashmir state, on Sunday.
MLA Udhampur, Balwant Singh Mankotia was the chief guest on the occasion while District Social Welfare Officer, Anil Sharma presided. Assistant Director, Youth Services and Sports, Ashok Kumar was the guest of honour. President Guru Govind Singh Study Circle, Udhampur, S. Gurbind Singh, Tehsildar Settlement, Heads of educational institutions and students were present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, the MLA lauded the efforts of organizers of the event. He appreciated the students who took part in drawing competition and exposed the talent on a topic of vital importance. He called upon the people and the students in particular not to fall prey to smoking or chewing tobacco, the use of which is very harmful for our health. He stressed upon them to make those people aware who are habitual of smoking about the harmful effects of tobacco so that they make up their mind to leave this bad habit.
Other who spoke on the subject included Assistant Director, Sports, District Social Welfare Officer, Advocate S.D. Kotwal, Priest Sadiq Masih, Teacher Ishtiaq Ahmed, Religious Preacher, ISCKON, Krishan Gopal who advised for saying “No to Tobacco” forthwith to maintain good health and long life.
In all, 35 students in different groups ranging from class 5th to 10th of various schools took part in the drawing competition, out of which nine got first three positions in different groups, were also given prizes by the chief guest.
Navrang Theatre Group presented a skit on Anti Tobacco besides dances to educate and entertain the audience which was highly liked by the spectators.
