Anwar Ibrahim, now a leader of the Opposition Pakatan Rakyat’s Coalition has not showed up in the august chamber for the past few days. Is he trying to dodge verbal bullets from the press or is he as usual, trying to play hide and seek?
The political situation has not been favorable to the Opposition lately, at least in the parliament. The King, in his opening address, told the members of the house to work together for the good of the nation. The King also indirectly hinted at some of them for giving politics more time and attention. This was one reminder that really jolted some of them especially those from the Democratic Action Party or the DAP.
Members of Parliament especially those leaning towards the ruling National Front Coalition are already calling for the setting up of a Royal Commission to investigate the allegations against Anwar as was revealed by his former friends such as Datuk Zahrain.
Besides dropping names of the King and the Army Chief, the leader of the Opposition is said to have connection s with the Israelis.
The Malaysian Police said it will call Anwar and want him to tell his side of the story. The investigation will be thorough and fair, said Musa Hassan, the nation’s Police Chief.
At about twelve o’clock this morning, Malaysia Time, Anwar appeared in Hardtalk, an interview broadcasted on the BBC. He did mention his troubles in passing and said that even if he is convicted, the Opposition will continue with its struggles.
Meanwhile, the ruling coalition seemed to be contented with responding to the Opposition’s allegation point by point. Some analysts have voiced their concern that the BN or the National Front appeared powerless to stop Anwar from going overseas and talk to some of the most influential media in the world. As Anwar talked and talked, more and more people are listening. Obviously, this is his strategy.
Some Malaysians are wondering; where have all our diplomats gone to?
