An accused in the Paritala Ravindra murder case allegedly used a cellphone to plot the May 17 murder of a Congress leader, highlighting how easily undertrials and prisoners can access smuggled cellphones and food items. In the latest incident, Konda Srinu lodged in the Anantapur prison allegedly used a cellphone to lure the Congress leader, Kanganapalli Narayana Yadav, president of the primary agriculture co-operative society, to his death. Both Mr Yadav and Konda Srinu are said to be followers of the jailed factionist G. Suryanarayana Reddy alias Maddalacheruvu Suri.
The Anantapur superintendent of police, Mr M.K. Singh, said, “Mr Yadav’s wife has reported that her husband received a phone call from Suryanarayana Reddy (Suri) asking him to give Rs 200 to an unknown person.” “Mr Yadav left the house to hand over the cash and was later found dead. The money was in his pocket,” he said.
Anantapur jail officials denied that any mobile phone was used from the jail. The Anantapur jail superintendent, Mr Fazal Haq, said, “We have asked the police to give the call details and tower location from, which the calls were made.” There have been other instances. Last month, the Task Force police said a conspiracy to kidnap the Country Club owner, Mr Rajeev Reddy, was hatched in the Chanchalguda jail
