In West Bengal, the Army and the Airforce were called in to West Midnapore district to help the thousands of people who have been stranded there.
They dropped water and food packets to the more than 2 million people who have been affected because of the heavy rains in the region.
Several rivers are in spate and the extra water released from the Subarna- Rekha and Kalia-Ghai dams have affected nearby villages.
The army has also launched 32 boats and is trying to rescue people who have been marooned on rooftops and treetops for over more than 24 hours.
