Srinagar, August 27 (Scoop News)- ‘Hajipir Day’ marks the successful endeavor of the Army to provide secured environment to the people of Kupwara District through capture of famous ‘Hajipir Pass’ in 1965. As a mark of respect for the locals who participated and contributed towards the success of operations, the Hajipir Brigade at Trehgam celebrates this historical day by organising series of people friendly activities, the benefits of which reached the awaam of the area.
To commemorate the capture of famous ‘Hajipir Pass’ by the Indian Army while traditional fervor and gaiety was so very visible at Trehgam garrison, to commemorate the Day. On this day, 8600 ft high Hajipir Pass was successfully captured in a swift outflanking move by the troops of the Brigade. It was a bold day light attack from two directions thereby, overwhelming Pakistani troops before enemy reinforcement could reach them. This gallant act prevented Pakistani raiders from entering Kashmir from Poonch side. Since then 28 Aug is celebrated as “Hajipir Day”.
Army never tires thanking the awaam for local support during the operations. A fortnightly programme on healthcare, awareness drive and skill enhancement measure are some of the ways adopted by Army to honour the People. Awaam too makes immense contributions towards making these initiatives successful. A number of people came forward to help in executing these initiatives of Army.
