Army celebrates Vijay Diwas, When Pak army surrender in Bangladesh

 Jammu,December 16 – (Scoop News) – One of the most glorious moments in the history of the Nation and the Indian Army was on December 16, 1971.  On this day Lieutenant General Jagjit Singh Aurora, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief Eastern  Command of the Indian Army accepted the surrender of 91,000 strong Pakistan Army alongwith its Commander-in-Chief of East Pakistan, Lieutenant General AAK Niazi, which is the single largest surrender ever in the military history of the world.   This paved the way for birth of a new nation “ Bangladesh”.

           PRO (Defence) Jammu, Biplab Nath said that Indian Army celebrates the glorious moment as “Vijay Diwas” on 16th December every year.  On this day the nation and the Army pay a tribute to the “Veer Jawans” on the fine professionalism and valiant sacrifice by its solders for the nation.

 

            According to PRO the resounding success in the war and surrender of 91,000 stong Army was possible by ingenuous leadership of our senior officers, the grit, determination and sacrifices of our soldiers and wholehearted support of the Nation.  Indian Army’s dash towards Dhaka has few parallels in the annals of military history.

            He sdaid that Tiger Division has always been associated with J&K and in 1971 War with Pakistan, the Tiger Division severed the Chicken’s Neck by a remarkably executed offensive operation.

            Tiger Division commemorated Vijay Diwas in an impressive function at the Tiger War Memorial.  Wreaths were laid by Maj Gen T P S Waraich, VSM General Officer Commanding Tiger Division, and other decorated soldiers.   Various other formation commanders, serving officers and soldiers of the Division including retired persons were also present during the said occasion.
