Srinagar, September 10, (Scoop News)- Three heavily armed terrorists eliminated by Army in a counter infiltration operation along the line of control early hours of 10 September in Kupwara –Keran sector in north Kashmir
Col. Goswami said in a fierce encounter 3 terrorists have been killed by Army in Keran Sector on Wednesday morning. Arms, Ammunition a warlike stores have been recovered from them.
It may be mentioned that Army troops on Tuesday also killed a foreign militant in an encounter in North Kashmir.
Defence spokesman said.that Army in Srinagar, while relentlessly fighting the fury of floods in Kashmir has no respite from terrorists. In an encounter at Laribag in Kupwara district, RR unit located in the area eliminated a Let foreign Militant of LeT at 0600 hours on Tuesday.
He said cthat based on specific intelligence input of presence of a Militant in general area Laribag a search operation was launched by the RR unit located in the Handwara area. The area was cordoned and the terrorist was effectively engaged. In the ensuing fire fight the terrorist was killed at about 0600 hours today. The body of the slain Militant along with one AK – 47, one grenade and other war like stores were recovered. The terrorist was identified as Umaar Bhatti, Let Commander operating in the Valley from past 20 months.
While the Army has been the first responders to the disaster situation in the Kashmir valley and has undertaken one of its largest relief and rescue operations to rescue the people stranded in various parts of the State and provided succor, it has also ensured that the counter terrorist operations are not diluted and the State remains peaceful and secure, PRO (Def) Jammu, Lt Col Manish Mehta said.
In a joint operation launched by 21 RR and JK Police in Laribal village, approximately 7 kms West of Handwara, one foreign terrorist was neutralized and a large quantity of arms and ammunition recovered from him. Umar Bhatti, a Laskar e Toiba terrorist from Pakistan was shot down by the alert troops of 21 RR at 0630h on 09 Sep 2014. One AK 47 rifle, two magazines, 30 rounds of ammunition, one grenade, One Ground Positioning System (GPS) and one matrix sheet was recovered from his possession.
In addition to coping with the flood situation themselves and undertaking relief and rescue operations from Srinagar to the remotest corners of the State, the military operations to prevent the terrorists taking advantage of the situation are also underway. The Army is committed to providing aid and assistance to the people of the State in a safe and secure environment.
