Srinagar, August 16 (Scoop News)- Army has killed 28 militants on the Line of Control and in the hinterland in Kashmir Valley since the June 24 Hyderpora attack and recovered huge cache of arms and ammunition.
GOC of Srinagar-based 15 Corps Lt Gen Gurmeet Singh while talking to told reporters said , “Effective engagement of infiltrators by our troops is a result of our effective Counter Infiltration grid. Our brave soldiers are operating despite bad weather and extremely rugged, difficult High Altitude terrain. The series of successes exemplifies the commitment of soldiers and the commanders”.
He said that since 24 June, there have been a total of 16 operations out of which nine were on the Line of Control and seven were in the hinterland. A total of 28 terrorists were killed in these operations, 18 were on LC and ten in the hinterland. Bodies of 20 of these terrorists were recovered whereas eight of them, after being severely injured, tried to escape across of Line of Control and died on the other side, of the LC.
Lt Gen Gurmit Singh commended and appreciated the units for the effective counter infiltration grid and the integrated intelligence network. He said that People had been very supportive towards Army’s endeavors towards sustaining peace in Kashmir Valley.
Giving details Commander said that in the early hours of 14 August, troops deployed in forward areas of Keran Sector of Kupwara District detected suspicious movement. The interception took place in the areas between Line of Control and fence, approximately 1.5 Kilometer towards own side of the Line of Control. Alert troops successfully eliminated the infiltration bid two bodies of terrorists were recovered early in the morning alongwith two AK-47 Rifles, two Pistols, Pikka Machine Gun and other warlike stores. Possibly there were 5-6 terrorists later, credible inputs were received about two militants having died across the LC and one more was injured. The identity card recovered from body of one of the terrorist revealed that he was Sayeed Kashim Shah, a 55 years old, experienced terrorist leader with a good built. Based on the personal disposition, the stores and other inputs, it is inferred that this infiltration bid was part of the effort of LeT to push in an experienced leader, to fill up the leadership vacuum created due to elimination of a series of terrorist leaders in the past few months.
