Srinagar, October 15 (Scoop News) – Minister for Finance and Ladakh Affairs Abdul Rahim Rather today finalized arrangements for the ensuing annual Urs of revered Sofi Saint Hazrat Sheikh Noor Din Wali (RA) commencing from October 25 this month, at a meeting of the district administration Budgam held at Chrar-e-Sharief. The Chaddar on Sanctum Sanctorum will be offered on October 23, whereas the Urs celebrations would continue for 7 days.
District Development Commissioner, Budgam, Mohammad Rafi, Vice Chairman J&K Muslim Waqaf Board, Prof. M. Y. Qadri, Chief Medical Officer, Budgam, Dr. Aleem Din, district heads of various civil and engineering departments and senior citizens of Chrar-e-Sharief were including Mirwaiz, Moulvi Amir-ud-Din present in the meeting.
After threadbare department-wise deliberations, various decisions were taken to provide all the basic facilities to the pilgrims visiting the shrine especially during the Urs days.
The Power Development Department would ensure un-interrupted power supply in the shrine as well as in the town during the Urs days. Tourism Department would operationalize the power sub-station to make the street lighting system fully functional before the commencement of the Urs Sharief. A 25 KV Diesel Generator Set would be kept readily available as standby arrangement to meet any urgency. The J&K Muslim Wakaf Board will set up about 100 additional latrine and bath points for providing adequate ablution facilities to the pilgrims. The water supply to the town shall be augmented and additional water tankers would also be kept available to meet the water requirements of the people and pilgrims. The people of the town shall be provided additional quota of rice, atta, sugar and kerosene to meet the enhanced requirements due to rush of the pilgrims. The Managing Director, SRTC and other transport operators have been directed to keep adequate number of vehicles available for to and fro of the pilgrims till late hours in the evening. The traffic police and J&K Police would ensure free movement of vehicles to check traffic jamming in view of heavy rush of vehicles. The volunteers of NYR and Home Guard will also assist the police in this regard. The Chief Medical Officer, Budgam Dr. Aleem Din assured that adequate number of first aid centres would be set up at various locations on the chadoora-Chrar-e-Sharief road.
Responding to the demands of the local people, the Minister announced construction of approach road from Bada Talab up to Shrine Complex. He directed the Muslim Wakaf Board to introduce token system for custody of shoes of pilgrims on their entry in the shrine.
He assured the people that there will be no load shedding in and around shrine complex during the Urs days. He said after commissioning of new Grid Stations at Mir Bazar and Budgam, there will be discernible improvement in the overall power supply position in the area.
