Srinagar, September 24 (Scoop News) – Speaker, Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Mohammad Akbar Lone today directed for making elaborate arrangements by different departments for the summer session, beginning on September 30 here.
Chairing a high level joint meeting of civil and police officers, Lone underlined the importance of the forthcoming session for the legislators to highlight public issues and seek their redressal. He said the session throws an ideal opportunity for the legislators to bring to light public demands and make the executive accountable.
The Speaker stressed on perfect synergy among different departments for putting in place all the arrangements for preparations and smooth running of the session. He called for taking all possible precautions to make the session as one of the memorable event in the legislature history of
Lone asked Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir Asgar Hassan Samoon to monitor the arrangements personally and make sure that all facilities are provided to the legislators. He called for providing prompt and quick response to the questions of legislators, saying the same are vitally needed for solving public problems and addressing their difficulties in the best tradtions of parliamentary democracy.
The Speaker also stressed on making elaborate security arrangements for the Ministers and Legislators both inside and outside Assembly.
Divisional Commissioner Asgar Hassan Samoon, Secretary, General Administration Department Mohammad Sayeed, Inspector General of Police, Kashmir S. M. Sahai, Inspector General of Police, Security, Farooq Ahmed, Secretary, Law G. H. Tantray, District Development Commissioner, Srinagar M. A. Kakroo, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Sheikh Mushtaq Ahmad, Director, Local Bodies, Khawaja Farooq Ahmed Renzu, Secretary, Assembly M. Ramzan, Director Health Services, Dr. M. A. Wani, Director, ISM Dr. Abdul Kabir Dar, Director Floriculture Dr. G. S. Naqash, Chief Engineer, Electric Maintenance, Manzoor Ahmad Salroo, Chief Engineer, PHE G. R. Zarger and other officers of various departments attended the meeting.
Looking forward for a smooth summer session, the Speaker, has al;so appealed Legislators to extend their full cooperation in the successful conduct of legislature proceedings.
Speaking on the sidelines of a meeting held to finalize arrangements, Lone said that legislators would be provided ample time and full opportunities to seek information from the Government on the public-centric issues, which, he said is their primary role and responsibility.
The Speaker expected free and frank discussions on public importance issues in the best traditions of Parliamentary democracy in the forthcoming session. He said every MLA is within his rights to make the Government accountable and for the purpose he specially referred to the significance of Question Hour. Stating that Question Hour constitutes most important part of legislative business, Lone said that every effort would be made for ensuring smooth running of Question Hour, in which, he said concerns of the poor and common man are highlighted.
The Speaker said that the session would run as per public expectations and hoped that the purpose of democracy will be served in letter and spirit. He said this session throws an ideal opportunity to the legislators to raise issues of public importance and seek their redressal from the Government in a democratic spirit.
