Yesterday(June 21) the LF Government led by Communist Party of India (Marxist) of West Bengal completes its ‘remarkable’ 33 years in office. They celebrated this occasion by organising a big political brash in Netaji Indoor Stadium in Calcutta (now Kolkata). The Left Front"s uninterrupted rule in West Bengal for over three decades(it first came to power in 1977) is paralleled only by the record of the Liberal Democratic party of Japan (Reform Party joined Japan Liberal Party to form Japan Democratic party on November 15 1955).The major achievement of LF government was the land reforms and land distribution program. But arrogance is the main reason behind their downfall.
Ordinary party Cadres got employment in government departments. Now Central Government regularised employment in State Governments with the Staff Selection Commission (SSC).Qualifications was not a problem, only loyalty to the Left was enough to land a government job.A Marxist cadre interferes in every body’s affair ranging from divorces to landlord-tenant rows.In 2007,CPI(M) cadres launched massive offensives against the opposition in Nangram and regained lost bases in the area. Their cadres known as red brigade or Harmed Bahini torched houses belong to the opposition.Violence in Nandigram claimed scores of lives when the people of the area opposed land acquisition for a Chemical hub.During election time, armed party cadres attacked opposition party supporters for defying diktat to stay away from poling booths. In Bengal scientific rigging is quite popular. But now a days political equation has changed a lot.The recently concluded results of local body elections once again proved that Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee,a poet and playwright led Left Front government lost the popular mandate.People clearly reject the Left.
