So far, Nelson Mandela has been celebrating his 90th birthday early in London, England. He would be celebrating early with a slew of celebrities. However, Mandela’s birthday is not until July 18. During an early birthday celebration, Mandela had weighed in on the situation of the violence in Zimbabwe and the leadership of Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe.
Mandela had said that Mugabe’s leadership was a failure. Zimbabwe’s government fired back insisting that Mandela was pressured to criticize Mugabe. But, this story is not about Mandela’s criticism of Mugabe. Regardless of the criticism, Mugabe has no intention of leaving office.
This story is about an interesting present that Mandela has received from the United States Congress. Congress unanimously voted to remove Mandela’s name from the national terrorist database.
I had no idea that Mandela was still labeled as a “terrorist.”
The move to remove Mandela’s name as a terrorist was finalized on Thursday, June 26, by the United States Senate. But yes, Mandela is no longer labeled as a “terrorist.”
