A musician based in Greece will be hosted this November in a reception and performance at Le Poisson Rouge, a venue serving art and alcohol in New York City’s Greenwich Village night club district.
Aggelos Bousburas , 29, of Athens, will meet and perform for about 75 people on November 20. He will be hosted by a New York area press agent and publicist .
Under his stage name of "Substant Abstruse" , Bousburas has created an eclectic mix of avant garde metal, dissonant and atonal orchestral pieces, accompanied by his own vocals and interpretive video animation. In 2007 in Holland, where he studied media arts, Bousburas created the motion2sound program, which converts moving images and their motion properties into sound. The program was featured in two international innovation conferences.
Substant’s Abstruse’s Ivory Tower was listed in the top 10 albums of the avante garde metal web journal Avantgarde Metal(avantgarde-metal.com) in 2010. The Athenian plans to continue exploring and expanding the order-based system he utilizes, and to work on the analogical relationships between different senses such as visual to sound combinations to odour-producing smokes, lights e.t.c.
This holistic approach is a part of Abstruse’s philosophy; bringing to mind the early 20th century works of Kandinsky. Additionally, the gestalt theory gives some hints about how does this ‘work’, fueling Substant’s hope to rejuvenate these relationships by improving on his motion2sound program.
Abstruse was created in 2002. Substant and his partner Veiler were the duo on the first unreleased demo ”Neuronal Paths” (2003) and ”Transgression”. They began this project as a vehicle with which to materialize obscure, mysterious or eerie as they term it, musical ideas; the project unfolded in a suburb of Athens.
Helped by drummers with a specialization to different styles of music: Kostas Daskalias (Jazz-swing), Bill (Prog-rock, metal) and Shapeshifter (Extreme metal), Veiler is no longer involved in the project and it became a one man band.
The solo Substant (also known as Vincent Van Der Bosch) will visit New York City this summer, and his publicist has plans to apply for him to perform also at ISSUE Project Room , a pioneering center for the performing arts," dedicated to providing artists with a dynamic environment in which to create and perform new and challenging work according to their vision".
