Jammu, September 10, (Scoop News)_ Brig Anil Gupta, Convener, Ex-servicemen Cell, Bharatiya Janata Party has strongly condemned the attack on NDRF rescue team by a few civilians in Raj Bagh area of Srinagar. They not only attacked the personnel of rescue team but also punctured the rescue boat with sharp knives. The attack was so brutal that one of the injured personnel is critical and has been evacuated to Chandigarh. He appealed to the people that while their anger is genuine it should not be expressed against innocent personnel of the forces who are helping them at the cost of their own life. Such acts of their will only hamper and further delay the relief and rescue operations. Brig Gupta also lauded the selfless service of the personnel of Indian Armed Forces, BSF, CRPF, NDRF, SDRF and civil volunteers who are working 24×7 to provide relief to the affected families.
Brig Gupta regretted that despite six days have passed there is no semblance of civil administration anywhere in the Valley. The civil administration needs to play a role in coordinating relief and rescue operations. The people are angry because they are without food and water for last five days. There are chronic patients who require medicine. People need empathy and not lip service or media statements. They expect civil administration to cater for their administrative needs while the forces have their hands full with rescue operations. They are ruing the lack of governance in this hour of crisis.
Brig Gupta also expressed anguish with lackadaisical attitude of civil administration in Jammu about the relief to affected people of far flung areas which are cut off in Rajouri, Reasi, Udhampur and Poonch districts. People need shelter, food and medicines. Their requests are being ignored. He appealed to the authorities to coordinate efforts so that aid reaches the affected families.
