Attak Irrigation Channel Committee meeting held. Irrigation department urged to boos work on the channel.
CHITRAL: Meeting of Attak irrigation channel held here under the chair Tehsil Nazim Sartaj Ahmad Khan at his office attended by a large number of committee members, consultant, engineering staff of irrigation department and contractors. Tehsil Nazim overviews the previous meeting and expressed his great concern over pending (late) of payment to consultants staff as a result work is badly suffered. He urged on the concerned authority to assure timely payment to consultant staff and contractor so as to not delay in ongoing work. He also directed them to submit engineer estimate until 18th of this month. He was briefed by engineer Syed Aziz Ahmad regarding 2 fall structure of 1182 feet (both) and a tunnel of 2395 feet as total length of the channel is 81200 feet long and passing at a height of 13937 feet from sea level. Some 120 cusec water would be discharged while 16 feet width service road will also be constructed along the channel for maintenance of the channel incase of choking by land sliding or avalanche felling. The participants also offered Dua for the soul of deceased Ameer Khan Jalali then Nazim of Union council Kosht.
Sartaj Ahmad Khan who was chairing the meeting stressed upon the stakeholders to convey minutes of these meetings to elders and other notables of the area for mutual harmony and to level ground for boosting of this channel as thousands of Acre (barren land) would be irrigated after its completion causing for carrying a green revolution in the area. The committee through a resolution urged on early payment to contractor and consultant to boost the work and timely completion of this long awaited irrigation channel.
2 persons still missing under heavy avalanche at Lawari top 3 dead bodies recovered.
CHITRAL: As well as 3 persons died 2 missing under heavy avalanche while they were crossing the killer mountain of Lawari pass by feet. According to local police some 5 persons were coming by feet from Dir to Chitral while they were trying to cross by feet the killer mountain of Lawari top having the altitude of 10500 feet from sea level. When this bad luck conveys reached Daroo nullah they were tripped by a heavy avalanche as a result all of them were covered by glacier. Hence labor staff of road contractor, Dir police and local volunteers started rescue operation as result 3 dead bodies were recovered while 2 persons are still missing. Those who were died under avalanche were identified as Karim Dad son of Jamroz Khan and Sahib Nadir son of Sher Nadir residents of Madaglasht (Sheshi koh valley Chitral) while dead body recovered of an other person who belongs to Dir Qolanday but having no identity card as his name could not ascertained. While one Aziz son of Abid Khan and Sajid Khan of Madaglasht are still missing. These were labors and working at Karachi and coming back to meet their family while one of them was a student. Karim Dad was the only male person to look after and support a huge family having 4 small children.
In an other incidence some 26 people were coming in landcrosers vehicles when they reached near that blind turn a heavy avalanche collapsed and they were covered under that. Hence all of them were recovered safely and were returned back to Dir.
Tehsil Nazim Chitral Sartaj Ahmad Khan appeal Federal and Provincial government for compensation to the bereaved families. He also demanded for early opening of Lawari top and to allow Chitrali passengers through the tunnel. It was revelaed that one person having only 100 rupees in his purse and that is why he was compelled to cross Lawari top by feet instead to fly by PIA or coming via Afghanistan.
An other person kidnapped from Chitral.
An other person was abducted from Badogal village of Drosh Tehsil. According to police station Drosh some unknown persons kidnapped on gun point Zaffar Ahmad son of Jan Muhammad resident of Badogal some 60 KM from here. This if 4th incidence of kidnapping from Drosh area. Earlier that one Akhtar Jan Kohistani former correspondent of BBC Pushto service and having UK nationality was also had abducted who was released later on after heavy payment, an other Afghan refugee had kidnapped from Drosh while 600 goats were abducted and were shifted to Nooristan area of Afghanistan. Residents of the area feeling great frustration and fear by continue kidnap cases.
