Australian Publisher, Ross Dunkley Arrested in Yangon, Myanmar

Ross Dunkley, Australian publisher has been arrested by junta, at his home on Thursday.

He is also former WA journalist.

He founded The Myanmar Times Weekly News Journal in Myanmar since 2000. The Myanmar Times is a popular and widely world-known one.

Junta arrested Mr.Dunkley by Myanmar Immigration Act which can be jailed him 5 years.. He has been arrested after a trip to Japan.

Dr.Tin Htun Oo is a shareholder of Myanmar Times. Some said that Dr. Tin Htun Oo wants to control all of The Myanmar Times but it could not be reliable. Mr. Dunkley’s share in The Myanmar Times is 49% and remaining 51% is of Dr.Tin Htun Oo, unsuccessful candidate in 2010 election from the side of junta’s.

In Myanmar inow is a hard period for Paliament has been held. The Parliament  has been appeared after 48 years.

 

But reasons for arrest of Mr. Dunkley is not accurate and many rumors spread in Yangon.

Currently Mr. Dunkley is in Insein jail.

On Feb15, papers’ editor-in-chief has been replaced with Dr. Tin Htun Oo, co-owner. Another co-owner Bill Clough has being discussed for release of Mr.Dunkley.

Mr. Dunkley is founder of Myanmar Consolidation Media Group and published The Myanmar Times,English & Burmese, The NOW Weekly Journal, and The CRIME  weekly journal.

On Feb24,Ross will be senn at judicial office, Kamayut township, Yangon.

Junta sued Ross with the cases,,..as following..

Ross called a prostitute with K.40,000 per night from Thein-gyi-zay( Theingyi market) and made grevious hurt on her. Then Ross prohibited her from going back to her home. Then he made forced behaviors towards her.

Many of people thank that it has been done indirectly by Dr. Tin Htun oo but some said that it must not think as it. Dr.Tin Htun Oo is orginally simple person and it has been unusal habit of him.

 

On Feb 24, Myanmar court denied to bail Ross.
