MANILA, Philippines – At least 300 families from typhoon-ravaged Iloilo province got much-needed food items from an Austrian non-government organization.
The SOS Children’s Village Iloilo chapter provided rice, canned food and noodles to the families, whose houses are still under water after Typhoon "Frank" lashed the region.
"The affected areas are still not accessible and co-workers are trying hard to reach them. The water-level in many areas (remain) waist-high," the group said in a statement on its website.
It said some 60 families have taken shelter at the SOS Social Center Iloilo where they are provided with the food and essential items.
These families come from the communities around the SOS Children’s Village Iloilo where family strengthening programs are being implemented.
"Electricity and telephone services are still not restored in many parts of Iloilo city. Generators are pressed into service to provide power in the SOS Children’s Village Iloilo," it said.
Iloilo is one of the provinces hardest hit by Typhoon "Frank." Power and water supply had been cut off.
SOS Children’s Villages is active in 132 countries and territories worldwide. Its international work falls under the umbrella organization SOS-Kinderdorf International.
