Peoples Democratic Party today questioned the credibility and sincerity of National Conference (NC) latest idiom in pleading for a dialogue with separatists to resolve the Kashmir problem.
Addressing a day long workers convention in Budgam on Friday, Senior vice president of PDP Molvi Iftikhar Hussain Ansari said the NC’s plea is a mere hogwash by a party that had virtually abandoned the State’s political and economic interests for allurement of power.
Molvi said it was ironical that the NC had now cast off even the ritual lip service to the cause of autonomy, which it always projected as the cure for all ills of the Sate. “Their interests lie somewhere else” he said and added that the people know how NC allowed the autonomy proposal to be treated with contempt by the NDA Government at the Center of which NC was a partner and Omar Abdullah a minister.
PDP leader asserted that the rejection of autonomy resolution by the then NDA Government was not only a rebuff to NC but amounted to an insult to the State Legislature that had passed it with a huge majority. But just to save Omar’s job as a junior minister, NC to its eternal shame did not protest even meekly, he said.
Addressing the meeting senior PDP leader Tariq Hameed Kara pointed out that during the first three months of its arrival the State government had become noticeable only by its absence both from political and developmental fronts. He said that no new initiatives have been witnessed in any field and the government leaders survive in public either by their vilification of opposition or photo opportunities.
Former Chairman of Legislative Council Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjoora while addressing the meeting said the recent tragic incidents at Bomai, Sopore and Nowhatta and Khaigam Pakherpora have vitiated the atmosphere and there is an urgent need to address the people’s just concerns with concrete action.
Lone said PDP through its pro-people agenda is striving towards building greater public stakes in peace, and the party has a critical role to play and great responsibility to discharge in shaping up a politically stable and economically prosperous Jammu and Kashmir. PDP leaders Saifudin Bhat, Ghulam Hassan Geelani, M. Kamal Bhat and others also addressed the convention.
