Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad on Monday refused to face the vote of confidence in the state legislative assembly and instead decided to resign. Azad went to Governor N N Vohra to submit his resignation after he delivered a speech highlighting the performance during 43 months of his governance.
"I will not face the vote of no confidence," Azad told the House, which was specially convened after key alliance partner Peoples Democratic Party pulled out of the Congress-led government amid the difference over Amarnath land row last week. Azad sought permission from the Speaker of the House to withdraw the confidence motion before he went to Raj Bhawan to tender his resignation.
