Former Indian skipper Mohammed Azharuddin will join the Congress on Thursday. But it is not yet confirmed if the cricketer would contest the coming Lok Sabha polls.
Azhar is scheduled to meet Congress chief Sonia Gandhi on Thursday afternoon. Immediately after that he is likely to visit the party headquarters and formally announce his decision to join Congress.
Earlier, reports claim that Azhar, in all likelihoods, will contest from one of the three constituencies falling in Hyderabad in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Azharuddin who captained Indian Cricket team for nine years quit after the match fixing scandal. A disciplinary committee of the Board had imposed a life ban on him in 2000. He had, since then, challenged the ban.
Along with his wife Sangeeta Bijlani, Azhar runs an event management company and has set up a health club in the Banjara Hills area of Hyderabad.
Many former cricketers had a go in the politics. Its interesting to see how this stylish batsman will stand upto.
