RAJOURI/Jammu, August 29(Scoop News)-Facing financial constraints earlier, University authorities of Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University have managed to get Centre, State governmnet and University Grants Commission support to make the institution stable and governmnet/ UGC has also responded positively in development of it.
Accessing the overal development of the University in officers meet held in the VC Chamber, Vice Chancellor Prof Irshad A Hamal has expressed satisfaction over the stability of the University and has pressed upon the officers and faculty to work more dedicatedly so that the dream of making the institution as fully stable is realized.
Showing its concern on Development works, Hamal said that they have been harmonized with the ecology and environment of the place. “Establishment of 20 huge water bodies for recharging underground aquaducts, setting up of elaborate system of Solar panels for harvesting solar energy, Green construction works and massive plantation have turned the nude hillocks of Dhanore into a salubrious Campus for others to emulate”, he said.
Thanking various agencies for support, VC said that following recognition of the university under 12 B by the UGC in 2011 and the sanction of Plan Grants by the State Government, University is abuzz with construction and development works today. He said that 7 new blocks have been built up at a total cost of over 13 crores and these projects are nearing to complete. He added that they are going to initiate work on more 5 blocks in next few weeks. He added that Chancellor and Chief Ministers words “When I fly over the Campus now, I find it has taken the shape of a University” is aspiration for us.
On the release of second installment of 12th Plan grants for Campus Development, released by the UGC, VC said that the construction works in progress on the University Campus will receive further boost. He said that Universities are not recognized by their brick-and-mortar but by the quality and standard of their academics, efforts have been made from day one to woo senior and experienced academics of high credentials to plan and execute ambitious academic programmes hand-in-hand with motivated, young and qualified teachers. No wonder therefore, that research programmes pursued by the scholars and the faculty of University have met the approval of peers in the reputed Scientific organizations for external funding to the tune of 15 crores.
He added that not only this, the academic programmes initiated in 2005 and thereafter been strengthened and consolidated and a few more viz B.Sc Information Technology, B.A Arabic (Hons.) and M.A Mathematics have been added between 2010 and 2013.
VC also expressed desire to initiate many more courses namely Botany, Zoology, English, Economics, Tourism.
Showing ecological concern, Hamal said that Centre for Biodiversity has initiated two new research projects one on development of the Herbal Garden and the other on the Conservation and Reproductive Biology of some threatened endemic plants sponsored by the Ministries of Health & Family Planning and the Ministry of Science & Technology, New Delhi. He added that with the sanction of 4 senior and junior faculty positions approved in principle by the the Ministry of Science & Technology, the teaching of DBT approved M.Sc Biotechnology programme will get fillip. “The ambitious project on development of Pir Panjal Biodiversity Park at initial cost of Rs. 10 Crores is in the final stage of approval by the Ministry of Environment & Forests, New Delhi”, he added.
Terming extra-curricular activities as importance for overall development of personality, VC said that for all round development of youth, the Dean Students Welfare and the Directorate of Youth services and sports is making all out efforts to promote in-as well as outdoor sports. He added that maiden participation in the Inter-University Sports Competition fetched the University team a Medal in Judo. In Debates at Aligarh Muslim University and Mata Vaishno Devi University the University teams bagged 2nd and 1st and 2nd positions respectively. He said that University Cultural Troupe bagged 3rd position in the Cultural bonaza – ‘Virasat e Reyasat’ organized by the University of Jammu.
He said that University is steadily marching ahead with the joint efforts of its faculty, administration and the students. “No wonder therefore, that the students’ roll this year has risen to all time high”, he said adding that occasional departure of some employees for positions nearer home or for greener pastures gives temporary set-back to different programmes but immediate suitable replacements make good the loss. He wished that if the University continue to grow at the same space as it has grown hitherto the day will not be far when it will be a highly sought for resort for young learners from all over the sub-continent.
