The summer capital of the Philippines has laid out preparations for Earth Day event which will be held on 22 April 2008 a Tuesday. Baguio City is one of the urban areas in the Philippines that observed Earth Day with activities to spread awareness about the many problems that the earth is facing.
One of the activities prepared by the city government is the closing of session road; the city’s historical thoroughfares built by the Americans hundred years ago. Last year, session road was closed for traffic and the pavement was painted with colorful pictures describing different interpretations with environmental relevance. The said activity was participated by youth sector and environmental groups.
This year’s Earth Day celebrations hopefully will be more meaningful and would bring clear message to global warming deniers that the people of the world cares the earth. The message of Earth Day celebration is crystal clear: it is important to be prepared and arrest the looming problem early than be sorry later.
Earth Day event should not be construed as ballyhooed environmental campaign. This event serves as reminder to all that we have the responsibility to protect our planet earth in which case, cynicism, insensibility and encumbrances shouldn’t allow one to doubt or deny that our beloved earth is threatened by the abuses and destructive and improper use of earth’s resources.
