Baguio City, Philippines – A pine tree-covered area located kilometers away from the city proper is undergoing deforestation. Away from the prying eyes of media and authorities, the said pristine pine forest is now being cleared by heavy equipments for a proposed building structure by one of the companies located at the Eco-zone area of Baguio City.
While the United Nations and the environmental groups are calling for the preservations of the world’s forests, developers and big companies are doing the opposite. The said pine forest is just near the former Voice of America Relay Station, now a forest reserved beautifully covered with pre and post World War II pine trees majestically towering over newly grown trees.
Moog, a known big export company in the Philippines, is responsible for this new land conversion. The company seems oblivious or just unmindful of their action in the name of expansion and massive development.
