Back in October of 2007, Benazir Bhutto had returned to Pakistan from her eight-year self-imposed exile in Dubai, UAE. Her return was met by attempted bombing attempts. On December 27, 2007, Bhutto was assassinated. Pakistan was plagued by chaos and turmoil.
Bhutto was a former Prime Minister of Pakistan. She was also the leader of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) prior to her assassination. Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf has been blamed for letting Bhutto get killed.
Now, the PPP is headed by her son Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and widower Asif Ali Zardari. There is now a coalition in the Pakistani parliament between the PPP and the PML-N, which is led by former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
Bakhtawar Bhutto, the eldest daughter plans to be very active in the PPP. However, Bakhtawar said she does not plan to get into politics.
“I definitely want to help people in Pakistan. I want to continue my mom’s mission in any way I can, whether it’s politics or something else – I haven’t decided yet,” she said. Bakhtawar is currently seventeen years old and attends school in Dubai.
The 17-year-old Bakhtawar Bhutto has spoken; she has continued her late-mother’s fight. For the Bhutto family, it seems that politics is going to be a family business.
